    Hi Bob,
Thanks for the good things you said about my country. Can’t thank you enough for choosing to immerse yourself with my people and for telling the world there is so much to enjoy life in the southern Philippines. You’re right about Mindanao: it has a future.

Your blog and e-Domain is doing Filipinos a great service. Keep it going. One day, when Mindanao become a republic, and you are still there, I will move my government to award you the Distinguished Honor Medal of Penec Sandawa. To me you’re an adopted warrior—a white man with a brown heart for Filipinos. Makes you one with us.

Glad to know you’re a SW listener. Mind telling me about your shack?
Mine is a custom-built 40-watt, 2-meter transC with a Universal IC 7025. Try the middle band sweep. My callS du7abc.

Well, hope we can meet some other time when you come and visit Zamboanga, again… :) i’ll take you to a tour here… Like the famous Pasonanca Park… the new Katribo Complex (the newest hangout venue…) the newly-opened Southway Mall… and of course, my school, the Ateneo… :) Well, hope i could go to davao too, soon! hehe ;p tc! =p

    hi bob,

there are three wifi hotspots (as far as i know) in tagum city. they are:

    1. miko’s brew – apokon road
    2. jollibee – highway crossing
    3. chowking – highway crossing

    thanks!

    God bless you.

  64. GOwin on September 22nd, 2007 6:08 pm

Hi Bob. Thanks for the WiFi list.

    Feedback on Zamboanga WiFi hotspots:
    – CoffeeBook.com is no longer operating.
    – Jollibee Camins operates a managed WiFi and is open 24/7. Ask their staff for the password.
    – Myrna’s Bakehouse at Pasonanca does have WiFi but you may have to ask them to turn it on since they don’t see to keep it up all the time. (P.S. I won’t recommend their coffee beverages or food – bleach! I ordered for a slice of blackforest cake and they served something that neither resembles one nor taste near anything like it. :(

Hi marlowe – Thanks again for the update! They are greatly appreciated!

  72. ella on November 9th, 2007 10:21 am

can you please include the wifi provider. quality of their service depends on what wifi provider :)

  73. Bob on November 9th, 2007 10:32 am

Hi ella – No, I don’t think I would do that. After all, stopping for a cup of coffee and discovering that they have wifi does not tell you who the provider is. Most clerks in such places don’t know either. I think that the list is fine as is. Thanks for your suggestion, though.

Oh, by the way, if you wish to provide a listing of who the providers are in each location, I will be happy to publish it, though.

our speech professor accessed a wi-fi connection in Law Building, College of Law of Western Mindanao State University. i think they are still negotiating and looking for a place where they could place the hot spot accessible for everyone. =)

  93. Bob on January 19th, 2008 8:33 pm

DioneL – That is good news! Let me know if the hotspot is already permanent and public.

  94. Machinista on January 27th, 2008 10:31 pm

    In Bacolod City, I’ve tried:
    1. Sylvia Manor (free, the best thing is there is signal in the rooms!)

    1. Cebu Northwinds Hotel (free)

  95. Machinista on January 27th, 2008 10:32 pm

Ooopps sorry, I didn’t realize you were listing Mindanao wifi hotspots. My bad.

  96. Dionel on February 16th, 2008 12:22 am

    hello Bob!

well, good news! this is kinda weird but its true and ive tried it!

if you are a Western Mindanao State University Main WMSU student and a wi fi freak, try to surf and hang out at Education Building, the spot where the unfinished structure canopy is, has a Wi fi or a hotspot under the name of Dennis(CSB) and is open to public!

i tried it Bob and its great!kinda fast. i was trying it along with other students who brought their laptops with them.

when you find a network, dont be shocked if you will see Ian668 and BC 002 because these were the prior wi fi connection i identified at College of Law Building and Admissions Building

but too bad they were not for public or student use.

so Bob, you can now add in the list

    Western Mindanao State University
    College of Education
    Normal Road, Baliwasan
    Zamboanga City

    =)

It’s free for customers. Just ask the manager on duty for the password. I’m not sure how often they change the password,or if they even bother changing it.

Hello WiFiPH – Wow, it sure would have been nice if you asked permission first, before just saying “i’ll include your list from here…” I mean, isn’t that the courteous way to do it? I guess not for you…
