Bob’s Photography Toolbox

Currently, I am using three different types of Digital Cameras for my photography. Each camera has a different purpose, a different situation where I use it, and certainly different abilities and limitations.

Olympus C3000z Point and Shoot Digital Camera

c3000z from Olympus

The Olympus C3000z is the best digital camera that I have right now, although I plan to upgrade to a DSLR soon. The C3000z is a camera that I have had for about 4 years now, and in it’s day it was an excellent camera, although now it is somewhat outdated. This is a 3.3 megapixel camera, and I like it a lot, except for a few irritating things about it. First, the way that the lense operates, it can easily be damaged. If you turn the camera on before removing the lense cap, the motor that drives the lense will be damaged, almost certainly. I know, because this C3000z is the second one I have had, the first one was damaged the first day that I bought it. ;-) I also feel that the camera is a little bit slow from the time you turn it on until you are ready to shoot your first image. I want something that is almost instantaneous, which is why I plan to upgrade soon. I will give this camera 2 stars out of 5.

Olympus Micro Mini Digital Camera (in the USA this camera is called a “Verve”)

olympus micro mini

The Olympus Micro Mini is a camera that I really like. Unlike the C3000z, this camera is pretty quick. In just a few seconds I can turn the camera on and it’s ready to shoot. I guess that my only problem with the camera is that it is strictly a point and shoot with no real ability to manually control the camera. It is pretty much a matter of turning it on, and the programming of the camera chooses all of the settings. That’s OK for most people, and in most cases it is fine for me too. But, there are times when I want something a little more professional where I can experiment and play around. Sometimes you get some real interesting images that way! The Micro Mini features 4 megapixels, is very small and easy to use. 4 Stars out of 5.

Sony Ericsson K750i Cellphone Camera

Sony Ericsson K750i

This is one piece of gear that I absolutely LOVE! The cellphone is the best phone that I’ve had in years, and the camera is excellent as well. Although the Olympus Micro Mini is very compact, the Sony Ericsson is even smaller. Also, I am already used to carrying my cell phone everywhere I go. Having another piece of gear is not always convenient. So, having a camera built into my phone means that no matter where I go, I can capture a photo if the mood strikes me, or if I see something that is interesting. The camera has a few limitations (no optical zoom is the biggest problem), but still, it is very useable, and it takes a great picture too! It’s not a camera for action and that sort of thing, but for scenery, people, etc. it is perfect! 2 Megapixels. 5 Stars in my book!

    Nice site Bob,

Wife’s from Davao; considering retiring in Tagum. Got any pics of that city. The Tegum site has problems, so photos are limited.

    Regards,

    Hi Louis,

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Sure, we have some photos from Tagum on the Photoblog. Just enter the word “Tagum” in the search box, and click on Search. 4 or 5 different pictures from Tagum or the vicinity will show up!

    Take care.

Hi elena – Really, I am not a good photographer. Back in the early days of this site in it’s current format, I used to post a lot of photography here, and it is just simple stuff. Most of the photos that you see these days are photos that are submitted to me for publication by Provincial Information Offices and other individuals. In each case, the Photographer is credited in the post, so just take a look to see who took the photo. But, really, I am not one to share photography tips, because I am not a good photographer. Thanks for your compliment, though!
