Hadji Datu Ali Midtimbang, one of the 45 members of the Maguindanao Fruit Growers Cooperative, guides visitors through a 20-hectare mango orchard in Talayan, Maguindanao. The cooperative was assisted by USAID’s Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program to expand its network of buyers, and to improve its post harvest handling and logistics systems. The co-op, which now regularly delivers mango, banana, honeydew, cantaloupe, pomelo and longkong lanzones to markets and mall suppliers in Davao, General Santos and Cotabato City, is one of 12 producer associations and 84 farmers groups working with GEM to improve the production and expand the domestic out-shipment and export of selected higher-value agricultural commodities from Mindanao.
