  3. Ramon on October 31st, 2007 2:59 am

Bob, are you sure your papers are in order? :D

  4. Bob on October 31st, 2007 6:54 am

Hi Luz – I believe that they are open from 9am until 5pm, with a break for lunch.

    Hi Ramon – Absolutely!

  5. Lovejoy on March 9th, 2008 4:36 pm

hi Bob i just wanna ask some question..my fiance is coming next month and then he doesnt have a tourist visa.my question is if can we extend his stay here in philippines by applying there in immigration?thank u hoping for ur responce.

  6. Bob on March 9th, 2008 4:49 pm

Hi Lovejoy – Your fiancee will be issued a Tourist Visa when he arrives in Manila, that is good for 21 days stay in the Philippines. If he plans to stay longer than 21 days, he can now apply right at the airport when he arrives and will be issued a visa for 59 days stay. If he doesn’t feel like applying at the airport in Manila, he can apply for an extension at the Bureau of Immigration Office anytime before his 21 Day tourist visa expires.

    Enjoy his stay!

  7. lovejoy on March 11th, 2008 10:57 am

Thank u so much Mr. Bob i really appreciate ur replied.but can i ask one more question?after the 59 days can he apply again and how many times for he can stay here..?Have a good day!

  8. Bob on March 11th, 2008 11:19 am

Hi lovejoy – That visa can be renewed every 59 days up to 16 months. If your fiancee wants to stay longer than 16 months, he can go to Manila and get permission to continue extending up to 24 months. At the end of the extension period (16 or 24 months) he can take a trip outside the country (Thailand, Hong Kong, etc) and then return to the Philippines the next day, and start all over again, with 16 to 24 months of stay again.

  9. lovejoy on March 12th, 2008 8:59 am

Hi Mr. Bob thank you so much for the information that will be a good news for my fiance.can i ask how much it cost for the extention of hes stay here??

  10. Bob on March 12th, 2008 10:54 am

Hi lovejoy – Each time that the Visa is renewed, the fee is around P2,500 or so.

  11. lovejoy on March 12th, 2008 2:06 pm

Hi Mr. Bob thank you so much..!God Bless and Have a Great Day!

  12. Chris on July 15th, 2008 7:49 pm

Hi Bob…I have been staying here in Butuan since July 2006 and will be leaving next week for the visa run trip. Question 4 you. I will need to get an emmigration certificate to be able to leave. I was told they issue these in Davao as well as Manila and Cebu only. Is that correct – possible to jump on a bus from Butuan down there to Davao to get it this weekend maybe? The reason is that my flight leaving Butuan and then leaving Manila does not allow enough time in between to run over to the Manila Immigration Bldg and back to the airport so easier to get it a few days in advance here in Mindanao. Thanks much.

  13. Bob on July 15th, 2008 7:55 pm

Hi Chris – The Bureau of Immigration is not open on Weekends, so you will need to do it on a weekday.

  14. Chris on July 15th, 2008 8:07 pm

wow….that was fast hehehe thanks. Yeah was thinking of this Friday coming down from Butuan. Just wanted to make sure that you can actually GET the certificate there is the important thing.

  15. Bob on July 15th, 2008 8:08 pm

Hi Chris – I have never needed to get exit clearance, because in 8 years I have never left the Philippines. However, I have friends who have gotten exit clearance at the Davao BoI office, so I see no reason why there should be a problem. Good luck.

  16. Chris on July 15th, 2008 8:12 pm

wow 8 years in Mindanao. That’s a long time. Well I love it down here as well…so relaxing. Great blog btw…and thanks much for the info. God Bless.

  17. Bob on July 15th, 2008 8:15 pm

Hi Chris – Clarification… I didn’t say 8 years in Mindanao! I have been to Manila and Cebu a few times during those 8 years!

  18. trin on September 9th, 2008 2:02 pm

how much is the extension for 4 days only? thanks. please reply to my email.

  19. Bob on September 9th, 2008 2:07 pm

Hi trin – there is no such thing as an extension for 4 days. You have to extend for either 38 days or 59 days, depending on how long you’ve already been here.

  20. delia on October 13th, 2008 3:53 am

Hi Bob, i something to ask you. My fiance is coming from France and he want to extend his stay here in the Philippines can we apply it here in your office? I hope to hear you sooner is the better. Thanks.

  21. delia on October 13th, 2008 4:05 am

where is the exact address of this office? my fiance is coming on wedsnesday and we directly go to the office where we going to extend his visa. thanks

  22. Bob on October 13th, 2008 6:29 am

@delia: I don’t work for the Bureau of Immigration, so it is not “MY” office, I just took a picture of the place. But, yes, this is where your friend from France will go if he needs to extend his visa beyond the 21 days that he receives upon entry to the country.

  23. Bob on October 13th, 2008 6:30 am

@delia: I don’t know exactly what the address is, but it is on J.P. Laurel, directly fronting Victoria Plaza. Your friend cannot renew his visa immediately, he will have to wait until about 18 or 19 days in the country before applying.

  24. delia on October 13th, 2008 8:08 am

Sir Bob, Thank you so much for your quick answer i appreciate it.

    I have more question.

What are the requirements to submitt to apply extension visa.

Once again thank you and God bless.

  25. Bob on October 13th, 2008 8:10 am

    @delia:

Honestly, I am not 100% sure on that. I live here on a resident visa, so i don’t have to go do renewals like that. Since I have never done it, I don’t know what the requirements are. I believe you will need a passport, ID photo, but not sure what else.

  26. delia on October 13th, 2008 8:15 am

It is ok Bob, i’ll find more information about this.Thanks.

  27. Dave on January 13th, 2009 5:16 pm

    Hi Bob,

Bureau of Immigration Davao District Office
JP Laurel Avenue, Bajada, Davao City
Benjamin Roble Lao – Alien Control Officer
    Tel. # (082) 228-6477/CP# 09177053576

Here’s the full address for anyone stuck.

  28. Bob on January 13th, 2009 5:19 pm

Hi Dave – Thanks for the information, I am sure it will be helpful for many people! I do have one small correction – Benjamin Lao has not been at the Davao Immigration Office for about a year now, I believe that he was transferred to another office, although I am not sure where. I do know for sure, though that he is no longer in Davao.

    Thanks again!

  29. june on January 28th, 2009 6:18 pm

I am italian and was issued a visa for 21 days stay and wants to extend it with the BID. Should i go there personally to apply for extension? Or can I have a liaison and just give him a special power of attorney? Thanks

  30. Bob on January 28th, 2009 6:53 pm

june – you should probably just go handle it yourself. However, some travel agencies are BID accredited to handle these matters too.

  31. Zach on March 23rd, 2009 10:54 am

Hey Bob. Nice site. I may need to extend my visa in Davao. I’ve already extended it once, but I predict it will run out before I leave. Is there a travel agent in Davao that can do the extension for me or would I have to go to the Immigration Department myself?
    Thanks

  32. Bob on March 23rd, 2009 11:12 am

Hi Zach – I have a resident visa, so I don’t have to renew. Because of this, I have never looked into which travel agencies can handle it for you, although surely some can do it. Sorry I can’t answer your question.

  33. Zach on March 23rd, 2009 11:14 am

    No problem Bob. Thanks anyways.

  34. Mitch on April 9th, 2009 5:18 am

    Hi Bob,
Where is the bureau of immigration office in Cagayan de Oro CIty?
I need to apply a 13a visa for my husband.
    Thank you

  35. Bob on April 9th, 2009 6:52 am

Hi Mitch – Sorry, I’ve never been to the Immigration office in CdO before, so I don’t know where it is.

  36. Uls on April 13th, 2009 9:39 pm

    Hi bob,
Can you help me verify the legitimate operation of Robert Bock, Immigration Lawyer of Australian Immigration Assistance based here in the Philippines specifically Cagayan De Oro City prior applying student visa in Australia.
    Thank you

  37. MindanaoBob on April 13th, 2009 9:54 pm

Hi Uls – I am sorry I don’t know anything about this person.

  38. Steve on April 15th, 2009 9:20 pm

I just had a friend bring a travel agent to meet me about my initial visa extension for 38 days. The agent told me it was 15,000 pesos for the agency to do the visa extension for me. I explained that I had done this before in Cebu and I knew the government fees were only 3010 pesos for the express service and that agencies in Cebu typically asked for 300 pesos to do the paperwork and submission for you. She stated that 15,000 is what it costs, that it is a package deal from her agency and that she would provide receipts for all the costs. I was upset that a “friend” would bring someone who would so blatantly try to scam me for an extral 11,500 pesos over what it should cost. The travel agency she was representing was Good Steward Travel Services. Still not sure if the scam was hers alone of if the agency is doing it. Bob, any coments on this? Have you heard of anything like this before?

    Steve

  39. MindanaoBob on April 15th, 2009 9:24 pm

Hi Steve – Well, my comment is that their charge was way too high. But, they told you up front, and it was your choice to say no. You don’t say what you ended up doing, but I assume you declined their service. Extending your visa is easy to do yourself, and that is what I recommend you do from now on. In short… I agree that your friend did you a disservice.

  40. Steve on April 16th, 2009 9:26 am

Yes, I agree with you 100%. The problem is when an agent tells you that the 15,000 is requried by the immigration department. If she had represented 12,000 as the cost for her agency to do the application plus 3000 for the immigration department charges that would have been an honest transaction at way too high a price. But it becomes something different when you are told that is what everyone has to pay to do it. Until this circumstance i found Davao to be quite free of the worst of the scams played on tourists. This one bad experience won’t change my opinion of a great city.

  41. yeth on May 11th, 2009 9:49 pm

Hi Pretty – To be honest, I did not answer because I don’t understand what you are asking. What is a “travel report”? I’ve never heard of such a thing.

I LOST MY OLD PASSPORT THEN I NEED TO GET A POLICE CLEARANCE FROM JAPAN THEY ASKED TO GET MY PREVIOUS TRAVEL

  52. MindanaoBob on May 22nd, 2009 11:21 am

Are you a Filipino? If so, I would think that you would go to the DFA for that, but I really don’t know for sure. If you are a foreigner, I would think that you should check with your home country. No matter who you are, I don’t think that the BoI would be involved in this at all.

  53. pretty on May 22nd, 2009 11:56 am

i am a Filipino, the lady told me to get my travel report which means my previous departure and my arrival

  68. Maria K. on September 8th, 2009 5:23 pm

    Hii ! Mr.Bob,
My boy friend is an Indian National & staying in a African country where there is no Philippines Embassy or Consular office is located. He want to visit to Davao for 20 days during X-mas this year. Is there any provision under which immigration office can issue a landing permit for him. After landing in Davao he can apply for visa. Please advise.

    Best Regard.

  69. MindanaoBob on September 8th, 2009 5:25 pm

Hello Maria K – As far as I know, he does not need any visa. I never even heard of a “landing permit” I don’t believe there is such a thing. He should be issued a 21 day visa waiver upon his arrival in the Philippines. If he is planning to stay only 20 days, no visa should ever be necessary. I know this is the case for most people, although I am not 100% sure for an Indian National. Check with the Bureau of Immigration to be 100% certain.

  70. Maria K. on September 8th, 2009 8:07 pm

Hii! Thanks for your sooo quick reply..
But pre arranged visa is required for Indian Nationals. Visa free entry or visa on arrival is not allowed for Indian & some other nationals.

    Best Regards

  71. MindanaoBob on September 8th, 2009 8:15 pm

Hi Maria – If Indians are not allowed to avail of visa free entry, it would be best for you to talk to the BoI about how to handle this particular case. Good luck!

  82. MindanaoBob on October 22nd, 2009 6:48 am

Hi genelene – About the only advice I can give is to go the Bureau of Immigration, find out how much the fines are, and pay them.

Also, you can then apply for dual citizenship for your child, and she can stay here as long as you want her to stay.

  83. genelene on October 22nd, 2009 7:25 am

  85. MindanaoBob on October 26th, 2009 1:53 pm

Hello dons – Your inquiry is not related to the Bureau of Immigration at all, you will not need to deal with them. Make sure you have a passport, and then apply at the Austrian Embassy for a tourist visa. I don’t have any idea what the requirements are, or the procedure, though, since I am not Australian. Good luck

  88. MindanaoBob on November 5th, 2009 11:38 am

Lina – There is no such thing as a 10 day extension, but if he visits the Bureau of Immigration office he can extend for an additional 59 days with no difficulties. He can continue such 59 day extensions until he has been here for 16 months, then he must leave the country.

  89. lina on November 7th, 2009 11:23 am

No need to go for one week, Lina. Even one day, and he can come back for another 16 months stay.

Hi bob! I just want to ask if through BID I can be able to check if the person I’m tracing is already in the Philippines? I’m waiting for an ofw who refused to communicate about his arrival. Hoping for your immediate response. Thanks and more power to you!

  98. MindanaoBob on November 20th, 2009 9:48 pm

I’m sorry, Martin. I really have no idea. Why don’t you contact the BoI and ask them directly?

  99. martin on November 20th, 2009 11:05 pm

  101. Faith on December 14th, 2009 1:43 pm

Hi Bob. I’ve been reading your blog, and also Feyma’s blog for the past few weeks. My husband (an American Citizen) and I are planning on moving permanently to Davao in March. So I was trying to find out how my husband could get a 13A visa. Just want to say…awesome site…really great for those who are moving to Davao!! =)

  102. ronny on December 14th, 2009 1:53 pm

hi bob this is ronny i am waiting for your ans pls help me thank u god bless

  103. MindanaoBob on December 14th, 2009 2:17 pm

Hi ronny – I didn’t answer because your question doesn’t make sense to me. If I understand it correctly, it seems that you overstayed your visa. If so, go to the Bureau of Immigration office and work it out with them before you end up in big trouble.

If I didn’t get your question correct, please rephrase it so it make a little better sense.

    Thank you.

  104. ronny on December 18th, 2009 10:24 am

hi bob thank u for answering my question i means to say i hav over stay her in philipiness more them 6 months can u help me to tell how much it will cause me if i want to pay my over stay for 6 months.

  105. Luningning on March 1st, 2010 10:20 pm

Hi Bob- I have a question.. I wiLL gOing tO bring my son (11 mOnths oLd) in the Philippines for a vacation this month March and his a US Citizen. How long he can stay with me in the Philippines?? Thank u in advance and Have a good day! ;-)

  106. MindanaoBob on March 1st, 2010 10:54 pm

Hello Luningning – Your son, regardless of age, is no different than any other US Citizen. First, though, I should ask… are you a US Citizen? If you are a Philippine Citizen, then your son also is a Philippine Citizen, and if you get his Philippine passport he can stay here as long as you want. If you do not get your son’s Philippine Passport, then he can stay here for 21 days, then he can renew his visa every 59 days until he has been here for 16 months. Or… if you are a Philippine Citizen, or a former citizen, your son qualifies for a Balikbayan Visa, in which case he can stay for 1 year with no need to check in at Immigration.

  107. sweet17 on March 11th, 2010 1:24 am

hi Bob, this site is very useful…i just want to ask …my fiance is British and he will come this may without tourist visa.. can we extend his stay by another 38days here in immigration cdo? can he book round trip ticket already before coming to Phil. after 38 days extension to stay here in phil? or he will get a round trip ticket good for 21 days only then re sched later after we extend his stay here in cdo? help me bob pls…tnx

  108. MindanaoBob on March 11th, 2010 6:32 am

Hi sweet17 – Your fiance should just go to the Bureau of Immigration office before his 21 days visa expires and apply to extend it to 59 days. He will fill out some forms, and pay a fee, that’s all, no big hassles. He can book his round trip for the period he desires to stay, it should not be a problem.

  109. sweet17 on March 15th, 2010 12:51 am

Hi Bob, thank you for your fast answer…one more question bob…what if we will extend the stay of my fiance here by 38 days but plan to go back to his place only after 35 days ..he will not wait to finish the 38 days for hes extention here…is it ok bob? or he need to stay here in phil on that 38 days that he extend then thats the time he will back home?..thank you bob

  110. MindanaoBob on March 15th, 2010 5:41 am

Hi sweet17 – Yes, the visa allows him to stay up to 38 more days. He can leave anytime he wants though, it doesn’t force him to stay here.

  112. MindanaoBob on March 18th, 2010 11:35 am

Hi Kitty – You should visit the Philippine Embassy in Singapore and you should be able to get a Visa there.

  113. sid on March 29th, 2010 2:42 pm

i over stayed now here in the philippines and have no money and its past my day to go home and the airlines cant get me a open seat to go home so iam stuck with over stay and no money and no one to send me money how long can i stay and what will happen to me if they get me

  114. MindanaoBob on March 29th, 2010 3:12 pm

Hi Sid – I don’t know what nationality you are, since you did not tell me. However, if you go to your country’s embassy in Manila, many of them will pay your way back home as a loan if you are indigent. You will need to go to the bureau of immigration and work out the problem. There will be fines to pay, although it won’t be that much. What happens if you don’t take care of this? You may end up in Immigration jail.

  115. sid on March 29th, 2010 3:23 pm

iam form the USA i been here for almost 3 months now my family dont have the money they said they would send so iam stuck no money and way home my tickit is past due so no tickit to get home and what is immigration jail and how long

  117. MindanaoBob on March 30th, 2010 2:56 pm

Hi Shona – No, that’s not possible. Getting a Visa is something that only he can do, and he will need to do it in India or Singapore, before coming here.

  118. geonne on April 4th, 2010 12:22 pm

Hi Bob, I am British and I have been in the Philippines since Oct., 2006 I made two small break to go back to UK in the first year and since Aug., 2007 until march this year I have been permanently here, just renued my Visa every two months. In that time I meet and married a Filipina (legally) we went to Singapore the first week march this year for 5 days to break my long stay. I have now got a 1 month Visa when that finishes I then go on the system of a Visa every two months as a tourist. I wish to apply for a resident Visa, can you give me some information on how I should apply?…I also know about the high prices agency’s charge for their service. Hope to hear from you soon….Many thanks..

  119. MindanaoBob on April 4th, 2010 12:46 pm

Hi geonne – All you need to do is go to the Bureau of Immigration and ask for an application for a 13a visa. No need for an agency or anything, just follow the instructions that the Bureau of Immigration give you. It’s too late now, but you could have applied for a Balikbayan Visa when you came back from Singapore and been able to stay a year with no need to pay anything or extend.

  120. lezel on April 7th, 2010 2:57 pm

hi bob,i have a problem with my husband and i want to cancel his visa,he had already a record in immigration office and he also had police blotter and i have also medical records when the time he beats me,and now his gone and leave me with a lots of debts.i don’t know where he is right now,may i know what i’m going to do to cancel his visa and deport him.

  121. MindanaoBob on April 7th, 2010 3:47 pm

Hi lezel – I am sorry to hear that you are having these kinds of problems. Nobody deserves to be beaten, that is for sure. I guess the only thing you can do is go to the Bureau of Immigration and they should be able to help you, but if he already left and went elsewhere I am not sure how much they can do to help you. I do wish you good luck, though.

  122. finah on April 23rd, 2010 2:46 pm

Hello Bob, is it necessary to get health certificate in applying for a tourist visa in Australia? All my expenses will be paid by my partner, coz i don’t have money here. For how many months will it take to get my visa? Can a travel agency here in Davao process it for me? Thanks a lot.

  123. MindanaoBob on April 23rd, 2010 4:54 pm

Hi finah – To be honest, I have never been to Australia in my life, so I just have no idea.

  124. Rod Glover on April 25th, 2010 11:36 am

    Hello Bob!
I have a friend Andrew, who is a UK citizen. To be brief, he is in an ‘overstay’ situation, and is totally without any money or any source of income. and has been for a number of years! He plans to declare himself indigent to the Phil Immigration people, unable to pay his backpayments for overstaying etc, unable to pay exit taxes at NAIA, but he has a valid one way plane ticket back to the UK. He is not married to any Filipina!
Can you give any advice please as to how he can get out of the country.
    Many Thanks Rod.

  125. MindanaoBob on April 25th, 2010 11:39 am

Hi Rod – Your friend is in a tough situation. I would recommend that he contact the British Embassy in Manila first and see what assistance they can provide for him, or what their advice is. They may be able to offer some assistance. Short of that, probably his plan of declaring himself indigent is about all he can do, although I don’t know for sure what the Philippine authorities will say or do. If he can get some financial assistance from family or friends, he probably would not need that much money to get everything up do date.

    Good luck.

  126. Rod Glover on April 25th, 2010 11:47 am

    Hi Bob
Many thanks for your speedy reply. I will pass your info on to him, personally I think that Indigency is the best route, following contact with the Brit Embassy.

    Thanks again Rod.

  127. James on April 30th, 2010 11:13 am

I ‘m a Canadian Citizen. I will be marrying my wife(filipina citizen) in Davao, this May. I do not have a tourist visa. I want to live and work in the Philippines. Can I apply for a Philippines Permanent Resident Visa (13A) at the BI in Davao without applying for a tourist visa?

I have read that, in my case, I need a tourist visa, then apply to have the status changed into a Permanent Resident Visa after meeting the requirements. Is this true? If so, can I go to the BI in Davao, Consulate in Cebu or the Embassy in Manila to apply for the tourist visa? Or do I have to apply for a 38 day extension and mail my required documents back to Canada and then wait for them to send me back my passport with the visa?

  128. MindanaoBob on April 30th, 2010 11:20 am

You don’t need to get a tourist Visa, James. You, I believe, must be here with a tourist visa waiver (you entered the country for a 21 days stay, without a visa), correct? Just go to the BoI and apply for a 13A. You will need to renew your stay during processing time, but that’s all you should need.

Hi Enjielyn – I recently wrote an article about getting a job in the Philippines. It would be a good idea for you and your boyfriend to read it, as I think it will steer you in the right direction. Here is a link: Getting Real about jobs in the Philippines.

  143. MindanaoBob on July 23rd, 2010 1:40 pm

Hi jolyfred – since you are not a US Citizen you cannot apply for a US Passport, those are only for US Citizens.

For a US Visa, you will need to apply in Manila, since the US does not have an Embassy or Consulate here in Davao.
