Upgrading to a new server

For anybody who is a regular reader of this site, you may have noticed that in the past month or so the site has gotten rather slow.  The reason for this is because this site, and one other site that I have on the same server have experienced exponential growth in the past 6 months or so.  I have decided that it’s time to upgrade to a better server for my sites and try to speed things up a bit!  So, I just put in an order with the company that I have my server through (Servint) to upgrade me to a new and much better server.  The migration should be taking place later this week.  The migration should be fairly seamless, resulting in probably less than 15 minutes downtime for the site.

Last year, I upgraded to a new server, and thought the server would be good for another 3 or 4 years under traffic conditions on the site at that time, even anticipating growth of the site.  However, the growth rate exploded early this year, and has continued to grow since then.  Here at Mindanao.com, I am now using as much bandwidth in a single day as I used in a full year just a few years ago!  To me that means that we are attracting a lot of new surfers here, and many of them are coming back for more!  Nothing could make me happier!  While upgrading to a new server is costly, and is also somewhat of a hassle, it makes me glad when it is something that must be done.  It’s a sign that we are doing something right here!

As for ServInt, I have always been extremely happy with their services in hosting this site.  Their technical expertise and customer service simply cannot be surpassed!
