Mosque in Davao Oriental

On my recent visit to Davao Oriental Province, I was a little surprised to see this Mosque just after we passed the border from Compostela Valley.  I believe that there are very few of the Muslim faith in Davao Oriental, so I wasn’t expecting to see a large Mosque like this!

Hi Amanda – I agree that most Filipinos are friendly and respectful. There are some that are quite the opposite, but that can be found in any society. Overall, I find the Philippines quite a welcoming and friendly country.

Yes Bob, but the churches are not really built the same as in Philippine, it is just like a building and/or a villa but that is known to the public used as church for christians. There are 2 Philippine schools here, and some Filipino Restaurants, A lot of Filipinos here too, We are everywhere and everybody like us due to our friendly and respectful attitude. You agree that?

Hi Toto – If you are around, please let me know! I will e-mail you my cell number.

Hi Amanda – interesting to hear about the churches and such. I didn’t realize that Qatar was such a progressive society. Regarding the Bisaya – I really prefer to learn that than Tagalog, since I live in Mindanao. More people here speak Bisaya as their daily language of choice.

    Hi Bob,

Might be in davao this weekend.

There are churches here Bob, (different sects) e.i. catholics, orthodox, born-again and some others. We wear normal dress unlike in Saudi, there are night clubs too where u can dance all night till 3 am w/ alcohol but only in the hotels, there is also a place where u can buy alcohol but u need licence and to obtain licence u must be w/in the salary limit.
The country start to boom now especially after the Asian Games last Dec. 1-15 2006. 70% of the total populations in qatar are expats. They dont impose cruel punishment for the theives here e.i.(cutting off fingers) they only keep you in jail if found guilty for a period of time and pay the stolen amounts and automatic deportation, so expats espcly. Filipinos are affraid to do any mistakes because of deportation as they’re having good earnings here at least.

Hi Toto – I don’t have any real plans for the long weekend. Two reasons – our business doesn’t slow down for Holy Week, so we may be busy over the weekend. Also, I am more of a “spur of the moment” person. I rarely make plans in advance. You never know, I might wake up and decide to go to Surigao or Camiguin – it’s an adventure everyday!

I hope you have a good one!

    Bob,

Davao Oriental is a coastal area right. Most moro people are seafarers and if I’m not mistaken, there used to be an MILF stronghold somewhere in Davao Oriental.

So what’s your plan for the long weekend?

    Toto

Hi Amanda – I would imagine that in Qatar seeing a Church would be the thing that is unusual and interesting, because I am sure Mosques are everywhere there! The low crime rates don’t surprise me. I don’t know specifically about Qatar, but in many countries in the mid-east the penalties for theft and such are so severe that nobody would even consider it!

I don’t care to learn Tagalog. I do speak a little Bisaya, and am trying to learn more.

Just curious too…do u speak fluent tagalog now?
    :)

Hi Bob- you know here in Qatar, you will find mosque in almost every corner of the place. But there are also alot of western and europeans people here mostly working in the Oil-Petroleum Industry & Universities. I love this country and consider my second home. The most thing i like it here is the safety & security standard of the state of coarse no where is perfect, but you can leave ur car unlock on the street and go for groceries w/o worrying that a stranger will drive ur car, LOl!
