Border Crossing from Sultan Kudarat to Maguindanao

At the border crossing between Sultan Kudarat and Maguindanao Provinces in Southern Mindanao, they are in the process of building this marker on the border. It’s quite intricate and gorgeous. It’s funny that when you cross from Sultan Kudarat into Maguindanao, the first community that you enter is Buluan, which is probably one of the poorest places that I’ve seen in all of my travels. Yet, just a half kilometer away you see this marker being built. I wonder what the people think as they try to find something to eat.

No time to think about it Bob, when my tummy is hungry…
Working for an NGO that focused on low-cost housing (we have one in President Quirino), I asked the people around how much did the LGU cost that marker…then tried to compute how many housing units in can build.
Same thing with the provincial capitol of Sultan Kudarat that has a whooping price tag of 300 million pesos! The irony is that, the hospital adjacent to the capitol is not even finished, and not as grand as the capitol.
I wonder what’s on the head of one of it’s board members bragging about the capitol’s price tag without looking at the hospital’s condition.
May I remind him here that HEALTH IS WEALTH! And that’s very elementary.
Hi Toto – I understand your feelings.
