Terror expert arousing anger
Remember a while back when we had an article about a “Suicide Bomber” who was really a security expert, who was testing the airport security? As you recall, he brought bomb components on a plane going from Manila to Davao, then again from Davao to Manila. Each time he was able to slip through security unchecked.
Well, there is an opinion piece on Davao Today, written by Amirah Ali Lidasan regarding the incident. Amirah is downright upset with the whole thing! Her article makes an interesting read.
Airport officials are not the only ones angered by the Macariola affair. My fellow Moro brothers – they who have been accused, arrested, paraded in public as terrorists and detained only to be released months or years later for lack of evidence – are also upset.
What do you think, does she have a point?
I would have to say that she does make a point. If something happened and the test bomb did explode, who would have been blamed first?
Go over to Davao Today and read the whole column, it will be worth your time.

miss amirah ali lidasan seemed to indicate in her article that the bomb was live. if it was,
then it would have been a true test, although, a very dangerous one. if it was a dummy bomb,
it still would have been a good thing to keep the authorities on their toes.
the point is about at least two things: the effectiveness of air/sea port security, and the lives
of ordinary people.
i’m not a moro or a middle eastern man, but it scares the heck out of me whenever i imagine and
put myself in their shoes because things do happen to innocent lives. this is a very difficult
time for them.
the war with japan was a conventional one, where there was a distinct enemy, yet, many
japanese americans in the u.s. were rounded up, placed in detention camps, and monitored
because of fears that they may be spies or maybe even sympathyzers.
many african americans in the u.s. today, especially the men, cannot help but be fearful that
they may go to jail from mistaken identity.
so instead of putting the blame on any one person, or groups of persons for that matter,
i think that we as human beings have the responsibility to be aware and be vigilant so that
we might reduce the amount destruction of our fellow human beings’ lives and, of course, our own.
I strongly agree on you Datu Alaw Wala. Why they should be upset?
Would that mean anything else that Macariola is also a suspect?
Shallow thinking indeed!I appreciated much what he did for it
depicts negligence on the airport’s security forces. They must take it
a challenge to enhance their capacity to protect the place!
Her point is irrelevant. How could a dummy bomb explode. I am sure the man knew what he was doing and this lady doesn’t know what she’s talking. To me, what this bomb expert did was a good thing. Now we know how lax is the airport security. Duterte can shut up too. Instead of scolding this man, he should have appreciated what he did. Very shallow mentality indeed!
