Hi Jason - Davao and GenSan are generally quite safe. Davao is safer than GenSan, but neither would be a big worry. I would not be concerned about the elections, as long as you are staying in the cities. If you venture out into the provincial areas you could run into trouble, especially if you make political statements and such. Don't talk about politics or the elections as it really is none of your business (me too... I avoid the topic for the most part). We are foreigners, and the politics of the Philippines is not our business.

You don't need vaccinations to come here. Probably, make sure your tetanus is up to date, just in case you have any kind of accident where you cut yourself or something, but that is recommended anywhere in the world.

I have never experienced a problem with bed bugs here, although a hotel anywhere in the world could have them. But, I've never encountered that. Which hotel to stay at depends greatly on your budget. In Davao, if you are not worried about the price, try the Marco Polo Hotel, or the Grand Regal, both are very first class, and I am sure would make you very comfortable. In GenSan, check East Asia Royale Hotel or Sydney Hotel for a nice place to stay.

Hi there Bob,

How are you coping with the Mendanao blackout rotations?

I would like to visit in Davao and General Santos City, but I'm verry concerned about the up coming election in May. I'm a pale American caucasion, so no blending in with the locals. Would I be safer to wait until after the election, and if so how long?

Do I need vacinations to come over there? Are bed bugs common in the hotels? Can you recommend clean hotels, or ones to avoid in these areas? I'm alergic to bed bug bites.

Thank you so much for maintaining this wonderful journal for all of us to read!

hello Bob. Thank you for your answer. I think you are right and i also find your homepage of PointmanPI. Its very important for me what happens to my friend. And i dont know how to find it out in another way as you told me. So I will use your service. How can we come together for this service? I would give you some important questions which should be answered, also a message to give to Jean, when you will find her. Do you response me via email? and please, let me also know how much I have to pay for your help. Sorry Bob, I am very emotional about this situation. And I am sure, there must be a big problem which she cant overcome alone. So I need help to help her. Thank you very much. Greetings again....Norbert.....Really love her, and I am sure, she loves me......

Hi Will - It's been a few years since I've been to Bislig, but I have heard of no road improvements in that time. As far as I know, everything is just the same as it has been, roadwise.

As for a teacher, I suppose that it makes a difference on where you live, and you don't seem sure yet. I would advise you to search for a teacher once you are here. It should be quite easy to find a decent teacher, though.

Hi Norbert - About the only thing I can think of is to send somebody to look for your friend, I know of no other methods. I have an investigation company called "PointmanPI" and we could send somebody to search for her if you like, just let me know.
