18 barangays in North Cotabato to benefit from UN food program

Cotabato City (10 May) — 18 barangays of North Cotabato were identified by the United Nation’s World Food Programme (WFP) to be recipients of their food security program beginning this June.

The barangays of Imamaling and Manobisa in Magpet, Kidama and Ilian in Matalam, Malanduage in Kabacan, Sambulawan in Midsayap, Cadiis, Malili, Kitulaaan, Manarapan and Liliongan in Carmen, Matila in Pigcawayan, Balatican, Pagangan and Nalapaan in Pikit, Bao and Pigcawaran in Alamada and Popoyon in Tulunan will be receiving sacks of rice, sugar, flour and other food items from the WFP, considered as the biggest program of the UN.

According to WFP Country Director Hiroko “Coco” Ushiyama, the food program is a support to the peace process. Its Focus is the conflict and the nutritionally-deficient areas. Other beneficiary provinces include Lanao del Sur, Lanao del Norte, Sultan Kudarat and Maguindanao.

North Cotabato Governor Emmanuel F. Piñol has committed the dump trucks of the Provincial Engineering Office for the delivery of the goods to the beneficiary barangays as the provincial government’s counterpart.

National Food Authority Provincial Director Fernando Nuñez has approved the governor’s request that the unfilled warehouses of the NFA in the province be used for the storage of undelivered goods. (PIA 12)
