A 38-year-old father of three was sent to death row by a Regional Trial Court after being found guilty of repeatedly raping his daughter.

Vicente Candillada is now awaiting transfer from the town jail to the National Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa where he will stay while his case is subjected to automatic review by the Supreme Court.

Candillada, a widower and native of Calinan, Davao del Norte, was accused of raping his daughter starting when she was still 14 years old.

When her daughter got pregnant sometime in 2004, Candillada fled Calinan and settled in Magsaysay town, a hinterland municipality in this province, and brought her daughter along.

The victim told the court that he threatened to kill her if she refused to go with him.

In Magsaysay town, Candillada introduced her pregnant daughter to the neighborhood as his wife. The victim later gave birth but the baby lived for only a week.

During fits of jealousy, Candillada would physically abused his daughter like beating her or striking her with a pestle.

Later on, a town policeman who lives in the same neighborhood took notice of the unusually constant quarrels of the two whom they knew to be a couple.
