Davao City (3 December) — The image of stability of the city government will go a long way in propping up investors.”

This was the statement given by councilor Diosdado Mahipus during the weekly television “On The Spot” TV program anchored by RPN 9 manager Danny Comilang.

“Amidst the seemingly prevailing wait-and-see attitude among some businessmen, it is only the image of a strong mayor that can boost investors’ confidence in the city,” he said.

Peace and stability is one of the most important factors that affect investment decisions particularly when putting projects in a certain area.

Mahipus said this is sufficiently answered by the present leadership whose main agenda is peace and order in the city.

According to councilor Mahipus, one factor that would deter prospective investors is stability and knowing that their investment is safe and secure will give them (investors) confidence to invest in the city.

“Our economy has started its take-off and new investments are expected to engage in fishing, packaging and other industries especially with the forthcoming Asean Tourism Forum, we will expect more investments to come,” he said.

In answer to a query, Councilor Mahipus commented that the Asean Tourism Forum is one of the biggest even that will occur in Davao city.

“This will strengthen Davao’s economy, social and physical security. Foreign and domestic visitors and delegates will be able to witness that Dabawenyos are peace-loving people and our city is one trade center that is truly peaceful,” he added. (PIA)
