Mindanao inventors meet Oct. 26 in Davao

Davao City (22 October) — The Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAP) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in cooperation with the Mindanao DOST regional offices will convene inventors from all over Mindanao for the “Mindanao Island Inventors Exhibit and Consultation Workshop” slated October 26-28, 2005 at the 2nd floor of Victoria Plaza mall, Bajada, Davao City.

The exhibit will showcase inventions of Filipino inventors, makers and creative researches residing in the Mindanao area (covering regions IX, X, XI, XII, Caraga and ARMM). There will also be entries from high school and college students which will compete for the Sibol Award.

The exhibit will have five (5) categories: a) invention; b) utility model; c) industrial design; d) creative research; and e) Sibol Award (Student Creative Research).

Invention category entries are those covered by an invention patent which is still in force and granted by the Intellectual Property Office. Utility model entries are those covered by utility model patent/registration which is still in force and granted by the Intellectual Property Office.

Creative Research entries are those with patent pending or without patent application. Inventions, utility models, industrial designs, devices, products, chemical/mechanical processes or researches with demonstrable qualities already commercialized or with potential for commercialization.

Sibol Award entries are new and innovative projects/models including machines, gadgets, products and processes developed by high school and college students.

Judging shall be based on the entries’ ingenuity, viability, usefulness, presentation and demonstration, ornamentality and aesthetics, uniqueness, market potential, and extent of utility. Final judging will be held at the contest site. Only qualifiers shall be given certificates of merit and shall be eligible to participate in the 2005 National Invention Contest.

There will be a consultation forum and workshops for inventors and the metals industries group on October 27-28, 2005 at Probinsya, Victoria Plaza compound, Davao City. The forum will focus on the enhancement of the metals industries opportunities and competitiveness and invention commercialization opportunities.

A registration fee of P250.00 will be collected from those who are attending the consultation workshop. (DOST/PIA)
