Mindanao Reaction to President Arroyo’s SONA
On Monday, July 25, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo presented her “State of the Nation Address” in Manila. Most reaction around Mindanao was negative toward the President, although it is the Opposition who was most organized for this protest.

According to the SunStar Cagayan de Oro:
AS PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo delivered her State of the Nation Address (Sona) Monday, some 3,000 rallyists from the local sectors and militant organizations all over Northern Mindanao converged and staged a protest, with group leaders giving what they call the “State of the Masses address” or Soma.
SunStar Davao told a similar story:
MILITANT groups from all over the region burned effigies of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and dummy coffins as they converged Monday at the Rizal Park in Davao City in time for her state of the nation address (Sona).
Actually, it seems to me that the militant opposition got the bulk of the press coverage, but honestly most people went about life without that much concern about the SONA.

Hi Leroy,
Thanks for posting your comment, I do apprecaite hearing from our readers! I am sorry for my oversight regarding the link for the news. Now that you have pointed that out to me, I have added it back again. Up at the top of the page, on the brown bar there is now a link for “Mindanao News” which will bring you all the same news sources for Mindanao as what we had before. The same link is also on the right side bar and says “Mindanao News”. So, we have the same content as on the old page format, it just looks a little different now.
Thanks again! Whenever you come back to Mindanao, let me know, I’d love to meet you!
Bob how are you? What happen to the news with the old format? I look at this website everyday. Just getting a look at the news on your website is the fastest and easiest to access. It is formatted easy to understand. I love it and love the Philippines. Gosh, I hope it comes back.
About me. I’m an African American from New York City searching for my wife there. Unfortunately, I’ve been unsuccessful for my fourth trip. I will be soon be making my fifth trip and believe this one will go ok. However, I have respect and understanding for my past incidents. I’ve been in Davao City, General Santos City, Koranadol City, T’boli, Manila and a few other places. I love it there. I’m from New York City. The people are great and very respectful in the Philippines.
I hope you put the news back up. I’m sure you have a lot of readers out there who are saying the same thing.
Take care
Leroy
